Bitmetv, org Registration Closed - Other options

Update: As of Jun 02 2011 Bitmetv.org is once again invite only.

As noted below and in my other torrent guides, becoming active in the IRC community and making friends is always an open option to getting an invite. Always remember to be patient and polite, and be sure to take a few minutes to read each sites rules of conduct.

Check back for details on other signup notifications and check with the private torrent sites listed below. I know first hand the quality of these sites, both in speeds and the community base, so feel free to ask any questions related to them.

Top Private Torrent Tracker Bitmetv.org Open Signups

Starting on the 30th of May http://www.bitmetv.org has re-opened its registration to the public. This torrent site is television content only, and has maintained one of the top rankings in pre-times (time between scene release and the torrent appearing on a site). At bitmetv.org you can find even the most obscure television series, including content from the 70s and 80s you grew up watching. I strongly urge anyone interested to take advantage of this rare chance to sign up, it dosen't happen often and likely wont last long.

For more information either go directly to bitmetv.org or log onto the official IRC channel at #BitMeTV on the LostIRC network. (irc.LostIRC.org) irc://irc.lostirc.org/bitmetv

If you are reading this after the signups have closed, you can still join by invite only. I would suggest logging onto the IRC and chatting with the community. Keep in mind asking for directly or begging for invites is against the site rules, but all are welcome to chat.

uTorrent releases new torrent client 2.0

Utorrent 2.0 has been out for a few weeks now, and this new torrent client made some major changes to the way peers interact in the peer swarm. If you want to read all the details you can read the entire change-log over on the official forums: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=65482

This new torrent client version by uTorrent now gives priority to seeders with a higher connection speed. This is great news for public torrent trackers, because you will now connect to the fastest uploaders and transfer speeds should be much faster and more consistent. However, man this new torrent peer priority ranking will have a significant impact on users of private torrent sites, which require a minimum share ratio; something that many European users with low upload rates were already having a hard time with.

Depending on how you use your torrent clients and the speed of your connection, it may be worth considering staying with the earlier uTorrent 1.85 client. You can grab that at the official site, or follow this direct link: http://download.utorrent.com/1.8.5/utorrent.exe
